Healing after narcissistic abuse

Narcissistic abuse often unfolds invisibly, leaving deep and lasting wounds. Survivors may experience confusion, self-doubt, anxiety, emotional exhaustion and a profound sense of isolation. Relationships marked by manipulation, gaslighting, emotional neglect and devaluation can cause significant psychological harm, even when those experiences are difficult to explain to others.

Healing begins by reconnecting with your sense of self. After prolonged exposure to narcissistic patterns, it is common to question your worth, intuition and even your memories. Recovery involves gently rebuilding identity, restoring self-trust and finding solid ground again after years, or sometimes decades, of emotional upheaval.

Many survivors experience chronic self-blame, difficulty trusting others, fear of setting boundaries, shame and a persistent feeling of never being "good enough." Anxiety, depression and emotional numbness are also common. Recognising these patterns is often the first step towards healing.

Recovery is deeply personal and rarely follows a straight path. It involves making sense of complex emotions, allowing space for grief and anger, and understanding how early attachment wounds or repeated invalidation may continue to shape present experiences.

I have trained with Dr Ramani Durvasula through her Narcissistic Abuse Treatment Clinician Programme. My approach combines trauma-informed therapy, cognitive restructuring, inner child work and compassion-focused practices to help restore a sense of safety, self-worth and emotional wellbeing.

Healing is not about fixing what was broken. It is about rediscovering the strength, wisdom and dignity that have always been there. With the right support, recovery is possible, and lasting change can begin.
