Meet Laura
I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist and counsellor with a post graduate diploma and Masters in Psychosynthesis Psychology, working in private practice, I also have trained in Compassion Focused Therapy. For 7 years I have volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Care supporting clients with their grief and bereavement, and more recently in the role of a supervisor. I have also worked as a support worker with people who have acute mental illness.
In my private practice I take a trauma informed approach to work with clients guiding them on a journey of self discovery and self realisation, so that with awareness and understanding they can see their historical patterns and behaviours and how they are impacting the present. Allowing to see more clearly and make better choices for a more fulfilling life.
Working in partnership with my clients, I create a trusting, safe and supportive space to encourage and empower people towards discovery of their potential and their power through personal exploration and unfoldment.
Awareness is like the sun, when it shines on things,
they transform.
Psychosynthesis
Psychosynthesis is a therapeutic approach that derives from psychoanalysis. It was developed in the early 20th century by Italian psychiatrist, Roberto Assagioli, who unlike Freud believed in a more inclusive concept of humanity - one that integrated spiritual as well psychological elements. Psychosynthesis explores and supports the ways in which people harmonise various aspects of their personal self in order to grow and develop. Psychosynthesis is a psychology of hope, with its eye not only on history, but also on a purposeful future giving individuals the ability to reorient their lives in the direction of meaning and values.
This form of therapy has several strengths - including the provision of a varied range of practical methods that ensure access to, and recognition of, a deeper part of the human self. It ensures that personal growth and development happens according to a client's inner wisdom. Their natural capacity for change and growth that lies deep within is allowed to surface at a steady pace and according to its own pattern. The heart of psychosynthesis is a psychology of spirit, it gives us the capacity to heal, explore and expand upon who we are and who we can become.
Working Together
Entering therapy requires commitment and trust, so choosing someone you can build a relationship with is really important. You need to feel safe and comfortable with your therapist and I use the first session as a consultation, not only to see whether I can help you, but also to see if you feel comfortable with me.
Working with the right person is vital if the therapy is going to be useful. I work with clients short term or long term on an open ended basis, with a commitment to weekly sessions. We can discuss which is the most suitable for you in your initial session. Regular sessions are 60 minutes and the cost is £65, I also offer some sessions on a reduced fee for students and people on a low income.
I follow the UKCP ethical framework and I am happy to show you evidence of professional training and insurance.
No matter what your personal struggle is, counselling and psychotherapy can help you to a greater mastery of who you are and relief from your symptoms. With awareness and insight, we gain power over the feelings that once held us captive
